Jury statement

The jury of the 2012 Oscar Čepan award was impressed by the overall quality of the work of the four finalists Tomáš Džadoň, Mira Gáberová, Oto Hudec and Matej Vakula, both in terms of the strength of artistic concepts and their realisation in the exhibition space. They also took note of the common threads connecting the individual artistic projects, including a shared preoccupation with relevant contemporary issues and a concern with participatory practices. The winning project by Mira Gáberová was selected unanimously by the jury, who appreciated its subtle and multi-layered exploration of the idea of community, the artist’s investigation of practices of collective creativity, as well as resonances of the history of performance art in the work.
